Beta testing with TestFlight

Apple has no 12-tester, 14-day rule — you could submit straight to review. Don't. A TestFlight round is the cheapest rehearsal for App Review you will ever get.

Internal testing

Up to 100 members of your App Store Connect team can install any uploaded build immediately — no review of any kind. Add them under TestFlight → Internal Testing. This is your day-to-day loop: push a build, the team has it in minutes.

External testing

Up to 10,000 testers outside your team, invited by email or a public link. The first build of each version goes through Beta App Review — a lighter pass than full App Review, usually within a day.

  • Create a group under TestFlight → External Testing.
  • Attach a build and answer the beta review questions.
  • Share the public link or invite emails; testers install via the TestFlight app.
  • Builds expire after 90 days — plan re-invites for long betas.

Why bother, if it's optional?

  • Beta App Review flags the same crashes, broken flows and metadata problems full review would — while a rejection costs you nothing.
  • Crash reports and tester feedback arrive attached to the exact build.
  • Real-device coverage: your app on hardware, networks and iOS versions your simulator never sees.

A build that has survived an external TestFlight round with real users goes into App Review with most of its rejection reasons already burned off.
